Have a great hair day every single day with 25 tips that will change your life!

Hello girls,

I have been getting a lot of questions lately about how to prevent hair damage from blow dryers, flat irons etc..

Here are some great tips for your hair in general and other tips for damage-prevention in particular:

Tip #1:
Always comb your hair with those wide combs. This puts less stress on the roots of the hair and will not cause hair fall when you are combing.

Tip #2:
Combing your hair in the shower should be done very very lightly. Hair roots are the weakest when they are wet so be very gentle to prevent hair fall.

Tip #3:
As long as you are home, keep your hair in a braid. It helps hair grow longer and healthier. I got this tip from an indian colleague. Who to trust more than an indian when it comes to amazing hair?

Tip #4:
Do not shampoo hair everyday. Only do so when your hair is flat and oily. If you need to shower after a tough workout, use shampoo once a week and wash your hair with water and conditioner the rest of the week.

Tip #5:
Use a night hair treatment on split ends before you go to bed.

Tip #6:
If you have cream on your hair keep it off your face to prevent acne. Also, if you have oily hair keep it off your face.

Tip #7:
Trim your hair every three months for a healthy shine and good growth.

Tip #8:
When you come to apply any hair product, apply it from the centre of your hair downwards. Do not apply anything on the roots as this will make your hair look very oily, dirty and flat.

Tip #9:
Hair sprays, Hair shine, Hair Shampoo should be sprayed at a distance of about 15cm. Closer than this will make your hair look either very sticky, very oily or very powdery.

Tip #10:
Blow drying should be done twice a week at the most.

Tip #11:
Do not use flat iron on wet hair unless otherwise specified. Some flat irons have labels that say "for wet and dry hair". Those types are safe to use on wet hair.

Tip #12:
Pony tails are a cute and a fast hair do. Make sure that when you do a ponytail do not pull the hair too much.

Tip #13:
Heat protect is a must before using flat iron. They are enriched with vitamins and contain silicone that help make a coat on the hair strand which acts like a heat barrier. (Wait for future blog posts about that.)

Tip #14:
When using a flat iron try to prevent using it on the highest temperature. Do not keep your flat iron in contact with your hair for more than 5 seconds.

Tip #15:
Your hair should be kept product-free and heat-free at least once a week.

Tip #16:
Use the right shampoo for your hair type. Just like you would use the right moisturiser for your skin type. If you do not know your hair type, ask your hairdresser. Read before you buy!

Tip #17:
If you have hair extensions get the ones with clip-ons and not glue. Always invest in natural hair ones as they look flawless.

Tip #18:
Wash your hair extensions just like you would wash your own hair. Once a week is more than enough.

Tip #19:
If you have acne on your forehead conceal them with cute bangs.

Tip #20:
If you have bangs, wash them every other day to prevent acne on your forehead.

Tip #21:
If you have keratin-treated hair, only use flat iron on roots and tips for your hair to look naturally healthy.

Tip #22:
Botox, collagen and all these treatments are good for hair that is not excessively dry or frizzy. If your hair is very dry, rough or frizzy keratin is your best bet. The problem with using keratin on soft hair is that it makes it too flat and dull.
Make sure that when you do keratin, you do it at a very trusted hair salon; otherwise it might be a rip off.

Tip #23:
Do not sleep with wet hair. Your hair is very weak when it is wet, so the tossing and turning can cause  hair fall and in most cases hair frizz the next morning.

Tip #24:
If you are having a bad hair day, then a french braid or a doughnut is your solution. If you are in a hurry, a cute side braid with nice earrings can do the trick too.

Tip #25:
When buying hair elastics, opt for ones that do not have metal in them. Metal pieces in elastics tangle the hair and makes it very painful to remove!
