10 Beauty/skincare Terms On Your Makeup Bottle That You Need To Decode:

Sometimes reading a beauty or skincare product label is a trip back to science class. Big words, fanciful expressions and hard to pronounce terminologies- but what does it all mean? Believe it or not, these terms are not just for show. They are crucial in pointing out whether or not a product is right for you and your skin type. Here are 10 of the most widely used beauty terms to keep you looking and feeling good always. 

Non-Comedogenic:
 is a skincare product that is formulated not to cause any blocked pores. Basically these types of products are very safe to be used on all skin types promising that it will not cause any future pimples, blackheads or blocked pores. Hypo-allergenic: is a product that is safe to use on skin that is allergic to any chemical substances. Hypoallergenic products are very safe to use on oily skin, acne-prone skin, as well as eczema sufferers.



Broad Spectrum UVA-UVB:
is a term used on creams and lotions that contain a certain amount of sun protective factor (SPF). These products are used only in the morning and never at night.

 Skin Tightening:
is a term used for skin care addressing mature sagging skin. Women who are 50+ with saggy skin will go for this option. Creams with skin tightening ingredients contain substances and chemicals that help the skin regain its elasticity temporarily.



Dermatologically Tested: 
is a term that indicates that the product has been scientifically tested by a specialized dermatologist for tolerance tests as well as allergic contraindications that may result from the chemical ingredients in the product. 

Pro- Retinol A:
is a name given to vitamin A by skincare companies. An ingredient that is added to skin products that is specifically designed to target wrinkles, fine lines and saggy skin for women above 40. It is an antioxidant that is well absorbed by the skin to enhance the production of collagen; thus enhancing the overall elasticity of the skin. 

Plumping:
is a term used to address mature skin that suffers from excessive dehydration. These types of creams will enhance the skin’s moisture levels in order to fill in fine lines and smooth wrinkles out making the skin look plumped up and full of glow. 

Salicylic Acid or Benzoyl Peroxide:
are two very important ingredients used in skin care products that help in curing acne. Salicylic acid works on reducing the inflammation caused by acne while as the Benzoyl Peroxide is an anti-bacterial that helps in killing off all acne causing bacteria.


Tetrol-E:
is a very powerful anti-aging skin treatment-like Retinol A- that reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fill in fine lines.


Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA):
are basically a combination of acids that work on regenerating new skin and shedding away dull and dehydrated layers of the epidermis. Skin care products with AHA will work on revealing brighter, healthier and plumper skin. They chemically exfoliate your skin, increase dermal thickness and improve collagen production. 

Keeping in mind these terms and understanding the different roles of each skincare product will prevent you from wasting your money on the wrong products and ruining your skin with the wrong ingredients.
