A couple of years back, there was a huge hype about an egg-shaped sponge that promised flawless foundation application in seconds. Everyone talked about it, wrote about it and bragged about it. From Magazine editors, to makeup artists to even Hollywood stars, the beauty blender topic was the trending topic at that time. This brings us to an important question: What was the hype all about and was it really worth it?
Well, to be very honest, the only sure thing that made this makeup tool boom is brilliant marketing. That's it! As harsh as it sounds, this is the mere truth. Associating a weird-shaped tool with celebrities and making great features about it in magazines will definitely make it look more special than anything else you have ever seen.
From my experience, I don't feel this tool is any different than a regular traingle makeup wedge in terms of practicality. In fact, for me using disposable makeup wedges is not only easier in terms of handling but it is way more hygienic. With the beauty blender, you constantly have to wash it over and over again to prevent build up of bacteria. As with a regular wedge, you use it once or twice and toss it out.
Wedges usually come in a set of 5, 10 or even 20. Using one everyday won't scratch your wallet at all and will keep your face free of any sort of bacteria. It is also worth to note that the final result using a makeup wedge is just as good as the beauty blender, if not better.
So here is my 50 cents for today, forget about the beauty blender and go grab yourself a set of makeup wedges from H&M, Top Shop, Daiso Japan (in Dubai), Boots (Worldwide) or any reputable pharmacy.
