The 7 Ultimate Must-Have Makeup Brushes for Beginners!

Hello Girls,

Many girls have been sending me inquiries about the basic set of makeup brushes that all women need for a flawless makeup look.

Today, I decided to write down a complete guideline of the 7 makeup brushes that should be on your dresser if you are aiming for a flawless makeup look.

Before we get into the list, there is a golden rule that you need to follow when it comes to makeup brushes. This rule is that the makeup brushes have to be 100% natural hair. Not only do natural hair brushes give off a flawless look to the way the products are applied, they are also very gentle and soft on the face. Not to mention, natural hair makeup brushes last almost forever if taken care of properly. So even if they are more pricey than the regular commercial ones, they are worth every penny of investment. They are the type of tools that you buy to last forever.

Now, let's talk about the comprehensive list of makeup brushes that you need to buy as soon as possible:

1) Blush Brush:

Even if you do not apply makeup, you will definitely have this brush somewhere in your room. You may not know why you have it, who got it for you or what it is used for but the truth is that every single girl owns one. Now, if this brush is used properly it will tremendously help in the way the blush is applied to the face.
The blush brush is only used for blushes; not for bronzers and definitely not for powders. The blush brush is used to apply blushes only on the apples of the cheeks. So basically stand in front of your mirror and smile. Do you see these two round balls that appear? This is where the pink or peach blush is applied with a blush brush. That's it!

To identify which one is a blush brush, it is usually flat from the back and the front with a slight curve  on top. In most cases, if you are lucky enough, you will find it written on the wooden handle that it is a "Blush Brush."

2) Powder/ Bronzer Brush:

The Powder and the bronzer brush is the fluffy large brush with a large surface area from the top. In most brands, they call it the "Kabuki Brush". The reason why this brush has a large surface area is because it moves all over the face. This brush helps spread the product evenly and flawlessly without leaving behind any blotches.

This is how it looks like:
3) Foundation Brush:

The foundation brush is NOT a natural hair brush. It is a silicone-based brush because it deals with liquids not powders. It is the flattest brush you will find in the brush counter.

With foundation brushes, any brand will do. Even if it's a cheap brush from Boots or any other store, they all have the same result since the silicone material doesn't really change from one brand to the next.

4) Concealer Brush:

The Concealer brush is the small tiny version of the foundation brush. It is made of the same material and it also deals with liquids or creams. So, when you get a foundation brush ask for its corresponding concealer brush. These two can be spotted easily with practice.

This is how the two look like next to each other:

5) Eyeshadow Brush:

An eyeshadow brush is not the regular sponge-shaped one that comes with the eyeshadow palette. As a matter of fact, if there is anything that ruins the pigmentation and the consistency of the eyeshadows it's this brush that comes along with the kit. So, rule of thumb is to throw this brush and get yourself a natural hair one that looks like this:

You will instantly notice the difference in the way the eyeshadows are applied and blended on your eye lids with this brush. Get at least two brushes from them: one to use for the light shadows and one for the darker shades. If you can't spot it, either ask for assistance or read what it says on the wooden handle.

6) Blending Brushes:

Blending brushes are particularly important for those aiming to draw smokey eyes. The blending brushes help soften any harsh lines on the eyelids by making the colours move consistently together. If you are having trouble drawing your smokey eyes, please sign up to my upcoming makeup classes in Egypt. Dates will be announced soon.
As for those who already know how to do smokey eyes, this brush is a must have!

7) Contour Brushes:

Contour brushes are from the same family as the blush brushes except for the fact that they look a little bit more angled/slanted. The reason being is that it only used to enhance the cheekbones and create more structure on the face. With a matt bronzer and a contour brush you can instantly achieve a higher definition and a deeper structure for your overall makeup look.
